Conceived Innovations is the parent company of Wilderness Geek and has evolved over more then twenty-five years from first hand experience in needs and application of electronic devices. From Industrial Controls Engineering and installation in the early eighties to Patented Emergency Rescue apparatuses manufactured and marketed in the nineties. This transformation has also led to designing and marketing of affordable digital video capturing devices for Astronomy enthusiasts in the mid nineties to 2001. In this broad spectrum of manufacturing and marketing over the past twenty years we have come to understand that old ideas eventually have their place again over time. With the evolution of today's technology and low cost manufacturing it is now possible to offer products that would have been discarded in the past as being unmarketable because of expense and lack of quality materials. So our goal and dedication is to offer useful and creative products that not only have a market, but value in their owners application. So now we find ourselves back in the Search and Rescue market with a new line of "Green Emergency Rescue Laser Flare®” offered by Greatland Laser Products. Conceived Innovations Company is an Authorized Distributor of Rescue Laser Flare® through our own Wilderness Geek online Storefront. Funny how things come back around!

More in depth information about Scott Hensler By Patrick Bolan

This is Scott Eugene Hensler's story the Wilderness Geek. This story is based on personal observations as a friend and from interviews with Scott.

Scott was born in Pennsylvania in 1956 and raised in Phoenix, AZ. Scott's early influences would set the stage for a lifetime of interest in a variety of technology disciplines and love of the outdoors. Scott’s father was involved in the early years of the aerospace industry in the 1950’s where he worked for Air Research as an experimental machinist having to do with the engineering to convert prop planes to turbo prop. Later, he owned his own machine shop where he manufactured specialized firearms. His father’s friends and neighbors were predominantly engineers so Scott was immersed in that environment from early on.

As a young Cub Scout, Scott was privileged to go on camp outs with Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater. Senator Goldwater served five terms as senator for Arizona, was an avid outdoorsman, a professional landscape photographer, Ham radio operator and known for his love of electronic gadgets. These are just some of Scott’s early influences. Needless to say the technology bug bit Scott. Unfortunately, Scott had a learning disability called dyslexia, which prevented him from learning in conventional ways. At age, 13 Scott began training in Marshall arts with Traco International founded by Tom Connors. He was told the training would help his dyslexia. Scott excelled at this and within two, years was asked to be a Traco International karate trainer. Scott’s love of electronics and gadgets, however, won out, so at 18, he began his career in technology. Some of the companies he worked for are Motorola, Intel, Thermatron, and Faratron where he had labels such as laser Tech, optics and calibration specialist, diathermy welder service Engineer, and RF service engineer. Furthermore, he worked with semiconductors, radio power transmitters and industrial controls. During these career years Scott maintained an active outdoor life, was a licensed Ham radio operator and continued in the process of inventing & Patenting his many ideas.

While listening to Police and radio transmissions Scott was intrigued by the communications of Search and Rescue operations. In the middle 80’s Scott became a volunteer for Search & Rescue under the authority of the Maricopa County Sheriffs Dept. During his 14 year involvement Scott operated as a backup for deputies, was a man-tracker for fleeing criminals, lost hikers, abducted children and did evidence retrieval. As Scott gained experience and trust he was certified with NASAR, the National Assoc. of Search and Rescue. Before long, he began training recruits in S& R and wilderness survival. After some years Scott had his own S & R vehicle custom designed by Scott with all the communication equipment needed to interact with all Agencies. You would think all this would go to someone’s head, but I can tell you that Scott was motivated by a passion to help people. I can tell you that, because I know him. He was always thinking about how to improve the victim survival rate. During his time in S & R, Scott was awarded two US Patents. Both inventions improved communications in the wilderness and saved lives. One of Scott’s Patented inventions is still used today called the Powertracker which became known as Gulo Gulo cell phone antenna hiking sick. Scott now enjoys late in his career continually learning and passing on his knowledge of hi-tech gear used today in all types of rescues or general outdoors adventures. Feel free to email Scott with any questions you may have concerning survival gear.
